PeeWee's on a Roll, Finish 3rd in Wyoming Tournament
After posting a 1-5 record to start the season, the Campbell Insurance PeeWee's have went on a tear going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.  In recent league play they've defeated Exeter 13-9, tied North Middlesex 11-11, beat Goderich 15-13 and outscored Listowel 16-3.

Last weekend they placed 3rd in Wyoming's PeeWee Tournament where they finished with a 3-1 record.  In round robin play they defeated Wyoming (minor) 8-4 on Friday night.  Noah Price went the distance on the mound giving up only 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2 through 5 innings of work.  The boys scord 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st highlighted by a suicide squeeze play where Curtis Eidt layed down a great bunt (on a pitch outside the strike zone) to score Trevor Dixon charging in from 3rd base.

In their first contest Saturday vs. Port Dover, the boys were down 4-0 after the first inning of play but then rebounded to defeat the Sailors 21-4.  Riley Sykes went the distance this time giving up 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1 in 3 innings of work but the turning point came in the top of the 2nd with 1 out when Price, scrambling to his right, caught a fly ball down the left field line and then made a perfect throw to home plate to catch the runner who was tagging up to score from the 3rd.  Offensively, everyone crossed the plate at least once and Reid Ramseyer, Eidt and Kaleb Baker led the attack scoring 3 times each.

With a first place finish on the line the boys faced the London Tin Caps (minor) in their second game of the day.  The boys again spotted their opposition 5 runs in the top of the 1st and then battled back to defeat their opponents 20-11.  This time Judd Walker led the charge scoring 4 runs while Calvin McCorkindale chipped in with 3.  In the 3rd and 4th innings, Stephen Bird played some great defence which limited the opposition to 1 run.  Playing centrefield, Bird had 3 putouts and two assists during those two innings - gunning runners out at both 1st and 2nd base on ground balls that slipped through the infield.  Dixon and Eidt shared the bulk of the pitching duties surrendering 9 hits, striking out 1 and walking 7 through 4 2/3 innings.  McCorkindale faced two batters in relief to get the final out and seal the win for a 1st place finish in their pool.

On Sunday morning the boys were matched up against a very talented squad from Pelham, who finished 2nd in their pool.  Unfortunately the bats went silent against some very good pitching - limiting them to only 4 hits.  Jake Monden and Eidt managed to reach base twice and Dixon scored after a leadoff double in the bottom of the 2nd but otherwise, that was the extent of the offence.

The boys are in action again next week with home and home league contests vs. a tough St. Marys team and then playing in our Mitchell Tournament the weekend of July 19th, 20th & 21st.  Their first game will be Friday night vs. Kitchener (8:00 pm @ CooperStandard Field) and Saturday's games will be played @ Ketersen Park on Diamond D ... 11:30 am vs. Goderich and 3:30 pm vs. Thorold.

We look forward to seeing you there!
