PeeWee's Capture WOBA Silver
After finishing 6th overall in league play, the Campbell Insurance PeeWee's competed in their League Championship Tournament in St. Marys on August 16th, 17th & 18th where they came away with silver medals for their efforts.  After an opening loss to the host team on Friday night the boys reeled off 3 straight wins to earn a spot in the finals on Sunday afternoon.

On Friday night the locals kept pace early trailing 6-4 after 3 innings of play however, St. Marys cashed in the maximum 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th.  Not to be outdone, Mitchell responded with 6 runs of their own in the top of the 5th to keep it close but St. Marys replied with 4 more in the bottom half making the final score 16-10.  Calvin Mccorkindale scored 3 times while Riley Sykes and Reid Ramseyer each scored twice.  Curtis Eidt and Jake Monden shared the pitching duties striking out 4 and walking 2 through 5 innings of work.

Saturday morning the boys were matched up against Exeter and defeated their opponents by a score of 21-6.  Ramseyer, Sykes, Monden and Judd Walker all scored 3 times - capped by Walker's 3 run triple in the top of the 2nd.  Trevor Dixon also chipped in with a 2 hit, 4 RBI effort.  Winning pitcher Noah price gave up 4 runs on 2 hits, struck out 2 and walked 4 through 3 innings of play.  McCorkindale came on in the 4th to close things out.

In Saturday afternoon's contest against the Saugeen Shores Storm, the boys started out slow and found themselves trailing 8-4 after 2 innings of play.  However, the bats came alive in the 3rd and 4th innings where they scored a total of 12 runs to earn a 16-8 victory.  Riley Sykes led the attack with 2 triples, a double, 5 RBI's and 3 runs scored.  Trevor Dixon added 2 hits, 3 RBI's and scored twice.  Sykes also earned the win in relief - striking out 7 of the 8 batters he faced in the last 2 1/3 innings of play.

Sunday morning's semi-final matchup was against the Owen Sound Redhawks who were the #1 seeded team from the North Division.  The offense exploded for 6 runs in the top of the 1st - capped by a 2 run single from Stephen Bird - and the boys never looked back in defeating their opponents by a score of 10-5.  Luke O'Rourke and Judd Walker each had 2 hits to pace the offence and Noah price earned the win giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and striking out 6 in 5 innings of work.  Sykes threw the final 2 innings to seal the win.

As fate would have it, the boys found themselves up against an undefeated St. Marys squad in the finals.  Offensively, Kaleb Baker had 3 of the team's 9 hits along with 2 RBI's but it wasn't enough as the locals ended up dropping a 12-5 decision to the host team.

Nevertheless, the boys played some great baseball this weekend and everyone contributed to the team's success.  Earning silver was a major accomplishment and they now have their sights set on the OBA Championship Tournament being hosted by Port Lambton on Labour Day weekend.

The boys would also like to thank the Mitchell Grizzlies for their help with tournament sponsorship this season.
