The Campbell Insurance Bantam WOBA boys hardball team hosted Clinton on Friday night and then travelled to Exeter on the following Wednesday night.  The boys struggled against Clinton ending the game with a 14 to 7 loss.  The Exeter game proved far more exciting as they rallied back in the final inning determined to get a win but fell short ending things in a 12 to 10 loss.

Drew MACLEAN took to the mound for the first time this season completing two innings.  Things looked promising when he threw the second batter out at first, but a combination of errors by the rest of his team and a struggle to get the bats off of the other team’s shoulders left Mitchell with a hefty deficit after the first.  Fortunately, our bantams left all but one of those walkers standing on their respective bag.  Things looked up after that first inning, but the Mitchell boys just couldn’t get on the sticks.  Jake MONDEN was the game closer walking off the mound with 3 strikeouts under his belt.

Runs were scored by Zach WARD, MONDEN, Jackson MACARTHUR, Tyson MCINTOSH, James COPELAND, Tristan BEEHLER and Johannes RENECKER.

The boys then travelled to Exeter with high hopes of clinching a win.  Exeter acquired most of their runs during the third inning, but Mitchell finally got its mojo back in the fourth and slowly but surely started getting some runs.  Going into the seventh the score was 12 to 6, but with spirits high the boys began to rally back making things very exciting as they scored four more runs.

Trevor DIXON was the starting pitcher followed by COPELAND.  Curt EIDT was the closer.  All three pitchers each had two strikeouts, but only two managed to plunk the same Exeter player.

MONDEN relieved Ryan HARMER of his catching duties for an inning.  MONDEN has not caught since senior rookie, but apparently it’s just like riding a bike.

HARMER gets credit for the biggest hit the game with his deep double to centre field and WARD had the best play where he turned a double catching a fly ball in centre field and then gunning it to third-baseman Stephen BIRD for the out.

HARMER and MONDEN got one run each while COPELAND, BIRD, WARD and Ashton CNOCKAERT each got two runs.

Three games are left on the schedule before the year end tournament.  Hopefully another win or three is in their future as well.
