WOBA BANTAMS END SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE By: Heather Monden
The Campbell Insurance WOBA Bantam boys played an exhibition game last night on their home turf against Goderich to finish off their season before the year end tournament.  These boys have taken a bit of a beating all season with only two wins under their belt, but some aggressive base running coupled with fewer errors resulted in their third win.

The first pitch of the night was thrown by Tyson MCINTOSH.  He was solid on the mound for the first two innings and struck out one batter.  Judd WALKER followed in the same fashion.  He also pitched two innings allowing no runs and striking out three batters.  Trevor DIXON was the closer, and he struck out three batters during his two innings.  In the 5th inning, DIXON was determined to pick off the runner at second.  He made it happen when this overzealous runner took too big of a lead.  DIXON threw the ball to shortstop, Jackson MACARTHUR, who then fired it to third baseman, Reid RAMSEYER.  The runner attempted to go back to second but RAMSEYER tagged him and he was outta there.

The pitching was rock solid all night, as was the defence.  A few errors were noted, but all in all they played a tight game.  Ashton CNOCKAERT caught the final out in the top of the sixth allowing them to maintain their lead in the event they had to play another inning.

On the offence, the Mitchell bats were on fire.  RAMSEYER started the game off on a high note for his team by crushing the ball to right field resulting in a triple.  By the end of the game he had three runs under his belt and an RBI.  In the 6th inning, he took to the batter’s box with two out.  He drove the ball to the opposite field as before giving him a double.  RAMSEYER not only stole third, but crossed home plate on a steal before the last batter of the night struck out.

Runs were also scored by WALKER, Stephen BIRD, Tristan BEEHLER, Brenden BOVILLE, MCINTOSH and Johannes RENECKER.  Zach WARD crossed home plate three times and Alec MURRAY twice.  Every single player made it on base and every player stole at least one base proving them a force to be reckoned with as they continually put themselves into a scoring position.

We interrupt this write up…Tulo is up to bat, bottom of the 9th, 2 out, 2 strikes…he fouls off into the crowd…holy nail biter…NY’s catcher confers with Miller, AGAIN…full count…the crowd is going wild…he fouls off again…he’s still alive…how many pitches can this guy spoil…dang it...he struck him out on the 12th pitch.  The Yankees won and Toronto’s 11 game winning streak has come to an end.  Felt like I was watching the playoffs in 1992/93.

Unlike the Jays, the Mitchell bantams did win their game with a score of 14 to 5.  Stay tuned for the results of our WOBA tournament next weekend.  Hopefully they can create the same excitement that the Jays have been this season!
