BANTAMS BUCKLED DOWN LATE IN THE 6TH
The Zehr Insurance Mitchell bantams journeyed to Parkhill on Wednesday, June 29th to play North Middlesex.  After a slow start they finally took the lead in the 3rd, maintained it till the 5th and finished it off with a 12 to 12 tie.

It was the bottom of the 6th, 1 away, runners on 1st and 2nd, and the game was tied 12 to 12 with just mere minutes left till the 2 hour time limit…this was it.  The coach called time and brought the infield in for a chat.  “The game is tied!”  “Ohhhh…we didn’t know that”  “Ya, well, we need two outs, so let’s make sure this ends in a tie.”  The boys resumed their positions, the pitch was thrown and the batter hit a rocket deep to centre field.  The runner on 2nd base took off, rounded 3rd and began his decent on home plate to give his team a walk off, but…it didn’t end that way.  Instead…Nathan HOOD snatched the ball up and heaved it to his cut-off man, Jackson MACARTHUR, who continued the motion with a perfect relay to catcher, Ryan HARMER.  HARMER caught the ball, made the tag and that kid was OUTTA THERE!  Excitement filled the air, but they were not out of this yet…they had two more runners in a scoring position.  Jake MONDEN took a deep breath on the pitcher’s mound and threw the last pitch of the game.  It was a swing and a hit.  The ball bounced right back towards the mound.  MONDEN scooped the ball up and raced the runner to 1st…tossed it to Brenden BOVILLE and this game was over!

Smart base running permitted the boys to steal 23 bases, and a third of those were completed by MACARTHUR.  Runs were scored by HARMER (3), Reid RAMSEYER, MONDEN, Drew MACLEAN, MACARTHUR (2), BOVILLE, HOOD and Jake WALKER (2).  Curt EIDT had a hard hit to 3rd which earned him a couple ribbies.

When the chips were down, these boys pulled up their socks and got the job done!  Now that’s great team work.
