"TALENT MAY GET YOU ON THE FIELD, BUT IT'S EFFORT AND ATTITUDE THAT WILL KEEP YOU THERE" Ken Griffey Jr
The Zehr Insurance WOBA Bantam Blue baseball team made the quick trip to Exeter last night to play a 7pm game.  The boys came ready to win and have fun and they did both leaving with a score of 6 to 3 and a whole lot of laughs.

Tonight’s team consisted of 7 bantam players and 3 pee wee call ups.  The first inning saw four of our batters hit by a pitch.  We went through the entire batting order and then some before they finally got 3 of us out.  In the meantime, Mitchell scored 5 runs giving themselves a hefty lead.  Ryan HARMER, Evan MORRISON (pee wee), Drew MACLEAN, Jackson MACARTHUR and Tristan BEEHLER all crossed the plate.  A call was made to the Exeter bull pen and a new pitcher took over on the mound.  This kid kept Mitchell at bay for pretty much the rest of the game.

Owen DUIKER (pee wee) was one of the recipients, in the first inning, of a wild pitch but later earned his way to 1st a couple times with two giant hits to the outfield.  HARMER never disappoints when he steps up to the plate.  After making his way to 1st in the 4th inning he sprinted his way to 2nd and rather than taking the traditional route with a hook slide he leapt (not unlike we’ve seen MACLEAN and MACARTHUR do in prior games) up and over the 2nd baseman but this time sticking his landing before the tag...giving the base ump no choice but to call him “SAFE!”.  The Mitchell scoreboard would increase by one more run before the end of the game as MACLEAN crossed the plate in the 5th inning.

Defensively, these boys were on their game with minimal errors and some pretty spectacular plays.  Jake MONDEN pitched to almost the end of the 4th inning and acquired four strikeouts along the way.  MACLEAN took over in the 4th and pitched through to the 6th, also acquiring four strikeouts.  Our closer for the night was MORRISON.  He started the 7th inning with a first pitch strike and got a strikeout of his own too.

BEEHLER ended the 1st inning with a great catch in left field.  The third out in the 2nd inning was a beauty pickoff by the quick hands of pitcher MONDEN to 1st baseman Brenden BOVILLE as a bewildered Exeter runner was caught off guard and tagged out by BOVILLE.  Likewise in the 4th inning, DUIKER was ready at 2nd base when MONDEN stepped off the rubber, whipped him the ball and he placed the fatal tag on the runner. Exeter took advantage of a few errors in the 5th inning and scored 3 runs, but the Mitchell boys put a stop to that.  The next time Exeter got close to the plate, in the 6th, HARMER and MACLEAN worked together to get that runner out on a quickly played passed ball. Not to be outdone by any of his teammates, HARMER, who was situated behind home plate in the 7th inning, sprung to his feet, tore off his mask and circled around till he eventually dove and caught the ball sending that batter straight back to the dugout.  The boys had been instructed not to let any more runs in and Wyatt HUITEMA (pee wee) followed those instructions to a tee as he made the final incredible catch of the game in centre field sending his team running back to the dugout for a celebratory meet.

It was such a fun game to watch.  Thank you boys for yet another entertaining night at the ball field.
