SMBA Jack Grasby Memorial Minor Mosquito Tournament June 15th-17th
Friday June 15th the Mitchell D.L. Hannon Minor Mosquitoes met Essex in the first of their SMBA Jack Grasby Memorial tournament games.  Mitchell got the bats going early scoring 8 of their 11 total runs in the top of the first inning.  Midway through the first inning Elijah Bender hit a double far into right field, picking up 2 RBI’s on the paly as Evan Janssen and Zack Siemon-Hergot came into score.

Mitchell would score 2 more runs in the top of the second as Logan Verberne brought in Charlie Wolfe and Ryan Klumper, who hit a single, ended up advancing all the way to home on multiple errors.

Charlie Wolfe would score the final run in the top of the 4th inning as Ryan Klumper would hit it deep into right field picking up an RBI on the play.

Ethan Jarmuth would start on the mound in the bottom of the first and would pitch 3 of the five innings, recording 3 strike outs.  Jonah Gibbings would relieve Jarmuth in the bottom of the forth and set Ryan Klumper up to close the game.

Mitchell would hold on for the 11-9 win over Essex.

Saturday June 16th, the Mitchell D.L. Hannon Minor Mosquitoes would face the Waterloo Tigers.

Charlie Wolfe would start on the mound for Mitchell and set the defensive tone early in the top of the 1st inning as the first hit of the game came to him and he made the throw from his knees to Ryan Klumper at first for the out.  Charlie would pitch 3 of the 4 innings played and would post 3 strike outs when he was relieved by Max Hannon mid way through the top of the 4th inning.  Hannon would close out the top of the 4th inning strong striking out 2 of the 5 batters he faced.

Mitchell’s bats were hot again this game as they scored 9 of their 17 total runs in the bottom of the first inning.  But it was the defensive play that was most impressive game holding Waterloo to only 2 runs for a final score of 17-2

In their second game of the day on June 16th, Mitchell faced Sarnia, and as the day heated up the bats started to cool down as Mitchell struggled to generate offense early in the game.

Ethan Jarmuth would score Mitchell’s first run in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Runs would be added by Elijah Bender and Max Hannon in the bottom of the 4th.  In the bottom of the 5th Braden Hoegy would add a run and Ryan Klumper would pick up 2 RBIs bringing in Charlie Wolfe and Logan Verberne.

Logan Verberne would start on the mound for Mitchell pitching 3 of 5 innings.  Evan Janssen would relieve Logan in the top of the 4th and set Elijah Bender up to close.

In the end, despite their best effort Mitchell simply couldn’t over come Sarnia’s substantial lead and would end the game with a 24-6 loss.
