Mitchell Mosquito Tournament
The D.L. Hannon Minor Mosquito OBA's competed in the Mitchell Mosquito Baseball tournament July 6th-8th.

In their first game Friday night, the team battled hard, but couldn’t fire up the bats, as the Minor Astros came up short against a strong hitting Kincardine team.  Mitchell started the game strong scoring 4 runs in the first inning with Charlie Wolfe, Evan Janssen, Zack Siemon-Hergott and Jonah Gibbings each taking a bases loaded walk to score a run.  The team was unable to cross the plate again until the fourth inning when Olen Hopf took a bases loaded walk, bringing round Brayden Hoegy to tie the game at 5.   Starting pitcher Ryan Klumper maxed out his pitch count throwing three full innings, followed by reliever Charlie Wolfe and closer Evan Janssen in the 15-5 loss.

Despite strong pitching coming from Elijah Bender, Jonah Gibbings and Max Hannon on Saturday morning,  the team struggled as St. Marys pulled ahead of the Astros early in the game.  A rally in the bottom of the third saw Ryan Klumper crush a 3 run home run to the fence in the 5 run inning for the Astros.  Ethan Jarmuth added an RBI single, and Charlie Wolfe brought Logan Verberne around the field with a bases loaded walk in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the secure St. Marys lead, and the Astros fell 23-7 in their second game of the tournament.

A very challenging match-up against Tillsonburg Saturday had the team working hard in the middle of a very hot afternoon. Charlie Wolfe struck out three in the top of the first inning, while a lead-off triple from Ethan Jarmuth, and an RBI single from Logan Verberne saw the Astros ahead by 1 run in the bottom of the first.  A triple from Ryan Klumper, set the stage for an RBI from Charlie Wolfe in the bottom of the fourth, cashing in the team’s second run, and seeing the Astros close the gap to within four heading into the top of the 5th. The team was kept working hard on the field, as Tillsonburg was relentless at the plate in the top of the fifth.  Unfortunately, there was little chance of recovery for the Astros on their last at bat, resulting in the team’s third and final loss of the tournament.
