Major Rookie OBA team wins in Waterdown
The Mitchell Astros major rookie oba team sponsored by wolfe flooring, went 4-1 on the weekend to capture gold in the Waterdown Wolves Major Rookie tournament.

The locals went into the opening weekend of the year knowing they had there work cut out. Due to rain we weren't able to get any games in prior to the tournament. In the first game the locals were a little rusty, jumped out to a 11-1 lead, but then due to some costly errors fell 14-13 to Whitby. In this game Michael coyne was a wall behind the plate, and Thomas schoonderwoerd was driving the ball all over the field. On Saturday the Astros knew they needed to win 2 straight to advance to the semis. The team started off against Hamilton. Owen Jarmuth had 2 doubles and many put outs in the field. The whole team reached base in this balanced attack in a 15-2 win. The final game of the round robin came up against the host waterdown team. Carson lubbers broke out in a big way, driving in 2, along with Brayden baxter and logan Montgomery who all had multiple hits. Ray wolfe had a big triple to start a big inning and took a 7-2 lead and held on to win at that score. The semis was against Welland, who we knew had some big bats. Connor wolfe drove in 4 and Bryson eickmeyer added 2 hits and started a pivotal double play to end a rally. Tyler verberne sent a huge double down the line to score some insurance runs and hold on for a 15-9 win. The finals was a rematch with waterdown. Cam dietz is a pivotal defensive player in the outfield and held waterdown at bay all game, preventing them from advancing on hits to him. The bats came alive again with eickmeyer, c wolfe and coyne all adding extra base hits in a key 7 run inning. Ray wolfe continued to crush the ball , with another triple for the tournament. Once the bats came alive we never looked back. Ending the game 16-6 in a 5 inning mercy to win the tournament. The key to success all weekend was a balanced attack all through the lineup, all 11 players scored at least 5 times on the weekend. The Astros classify as a 'D' centre for OBAs, and this tournament was full of 'B' and 'A' centres, so to come out on top is a true testament to there hard working mentality
