Hubbard Havoc in Kincardine!
Ryan Hubbard's RBI base hit in the bottom of the 7th scored Jordan Visneskie with the tying run and Dominic Marshall with the winning run as the Mitchell Stratford RV Peewee OBA Astros captured the championship in the annual Kincardine Harold Maurer Peewee Tournament with an exciting come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Bradford on June 9th.

The locals opened tournament play on Friday night, squaring off against Flesherton in a lopsided 13-0 mercy win.  Visneskie would earn the win on the mound, and Jarrett Van Bakel and Caleb Templeman each scored three runs.  Van Bakel and Jack Miller had extra base hits for the Astros.
Next up on Saturday morning was the host Kincardine Kinucks, with Keegan Priestap drawing the start and not allowing any runs with three strikeouts during his four innings of work.  Batting first, the Astros immediately went to work.  Joel Meinen reached base with a single, followed by Van Bakel's walk.  French stroked a two-run double and scored on Visneskie's RBI double to take a 3-0 lead on route to an 11-3 victory.
Mitchell's third round robin game of the tournament was an unknown Newmarket opponent, but big bats and strong defense were on display again with a 12-1 victory.  Van Bakel scored four runs and French would earn the victory.
As the only 3-0 team in round robin, the locals would meet the Saugeen River Bandits on Sunday morning in one semi-final.  Picking up right where they left off on Saturday night, the Astros jumped on the bats right away, building a 4-0 lead after one inning highlighted by Visneskie's RBI triple.  Carson Harmer, Visneskie, Hubbard, and Miller would each score twice and Visneskie would pick up his second win of the weekend.
After ousting Kincardine in the other semi-final, Bradford was now set to face the red-hot Astros in the championship final.  Averaging 13 runs of offense per game thus far, this game started off no different with a quick 7-0 lead after four innings of play as starter French weaved his way through the Bradford lineup efficiently mixing speeds and pitching to contact.  The Astro defense was spectacular along the way, notably Cody Bach making a diving catch in left field on a sinking liner in the third.
Bradford would start to come back hard in the fifth with 12 batters to the plate, bringing the score to within one at 7-6.  After Mitchell would add one more run in the bottom half, Bradford would take their first lead of the game with a huge two-out five-run rally that put the score at 11-8.  The Astros would get two back in the bottom half as Harmer drove in Hubbard and Kellen Russwurm with an RBI double.
In the top of the seventh, Bradford quickly went 1-2 on infield ground balls outs, but the third batter reached base on an infield hit as the throw pulled first baseman Hubbard off the bag.  However, catcher Russwurm promptly gunned the runner down on a steal attempt to end the threat.
This brought the Astros to the plate down 11-10 in their last at-bat.  Visneskie led off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on Marshall's one-out base hit.  Marshall promptly stole second, and Hubbard lofted a fly ball to right centre that fell in for a base hit, scoring Visneskie who had been held by the cautious third base coach in anticipation of tagging up.  The Bradford catcher bobbled the throw to the plate, allowing Marshall to race home from second for the comeback win.  Great weekend had by all!
