For the first time in many years, Mitchell Minor Baseball has a team for every age group due to the resurrection of the Junior (21U) team. And, on Friday, August 7, 2020, the Larry Hudson Chevrolet Buick GMC Junior Astros (21U) played it’s first game of the season against the Senior Astros.
Eric GETTLER started the game on the mound giving up only one run and getting six strikeouts. Judd WALKER and Curt EIDT also took their turns getting three and five K’s, respectively. Riley SYKES closed the game delivering pitches to just four batters. Nick LOUWAGIE and Jake MONDEN shared catching duty.
The Juniors had a comfortable 7 to 1 lead by the 4th inning after runs were scored by GETTLER, Ryan HARMER, Clayton RAPIEN, Zach DOW, Jackson MACARTHUR and Trevor DIXON. DIXON was all smiles as he did the home run trot after hitting a DINGER over the left field fence in the top of the 4th.
That high was short lived as the Seniors started to make a comeback in the 5th and by the bottom of the 8th, we had a tie ballgame. Both teams were unable to get that winning run in the 9th and the game ended in an 8 to 8 tie.
It sure felt good to get back on the diamond!
