MONDEN GETS 2-RUN HOMERUN!
The Larry Hudson Chevrolet Buick GMC 22U Junior Mitchell Astros are on a winning streak!

Tuesday, June 21, 2022, the Astros hosted the Byron Seniors to a packed ball park and came out on top with a final score of 10 to 4.  Josh EIDT pitched 8 solid innings and newcomer, Eric TAYLOR, closed the game.  TAYLOR took a break during covid from baseball, but you wouldn’t know it as he picked right up where he left off.  Sorry St. Mary’s, he’s ours now.  Judd WALKER made a diving catch in left field and Stephen BIRD played stellar defense at third base.

Saturday, June 25, 2022, the boys were on the road to Lucan for a night game.  Easily one of the hottest days ever, I expected quite a bit of whining on the bench, but got quite the opposite.  The boys drank their water and hammered out a 13 to 6 win.  Jake MONDEN hit a 2-run homerun (his first HR ever…sorry Lucan, we kept that ball), Ben SMALL made a diving catch in right field that we thought was going to require a stretcher for him, but he popped up with the ball in glove, he also slid into 1st base in order to get an RBI and later ran like a deer stealing two bases to eventually score a run.  Lake TAYLOR got a double play (you’re not getting him back either, St. Mary’s), and who could forget the crash between catcher Wyatt HUITEMA and 1st baseman, MONDEN, that left them with a few injuries but, most importantly, HUITEMA did not drop the ball!  WALKER was our starting pitcher and Eric GETTLER his reliever.  We had quite a following of fans at this game as well.  So nice to see the fans.

Sunday, June 26, 2022, with only a few hours of sleep under our belts we played another away game against Hanover.  Special thanks to the Gettler family for making the long hike to cheer us on that hot afternoon.  The boys had a bit of a slow start but they finally perked up in the 5th and there was no stopping them as they continued on to win 12 to 5.  EIDT pitched a complete game.  MONDEN nearly trampled today’s catcher, Lake TAYLOR, but opted for a dramatic sliding grab of another pop fly at the first base line.  But the most exciting play was the 4-3-5 triple play.  Riley SYKES to MONDEN to HUITEMA.  Let’s Go!

Next game is Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 7:30pm at Cooper Field in Mitchell vs. the Mitchell Seniors.  See you all there.
