11 WINS IN A ROW! AND, GETTLER AND WALKER ADD TO THE TEAMS LIST OF HOMERUNS!
The Larry Hudson Chevrolet Buick GMC 22U Junior Astros ended the season with a record of 11-2-1 in regular league play.

On Friday, July 22, 2022, the team travelled to London to take on the Byron Storm Senior Men’s team.  It was a great night for a ballgame.  Eric GETTLER pitched 7 innings which was all they needed to mercy the Storm 9 to 1.  GETTLER beat his record of K’s and ended up with 12 for this game.    In the 4th inning, with bases loaded, Jake MONDEN had a monster hit that easily cleared the outfield fence and according to the Astros was definitely a grand slam, but unfortunately the umps disagreed as they determined it hit the trees on the wrong side of the foul line.

On Thursday, July 28, 2022, the boys hosted the Senior Hanover team and kept things interesting for their fans with a tight score of 13 to 11 for the win.  Ryan HARMER killed it in centerfield.  He robbed Hanover 4 times, one of which, with his signature diving/rolling catch that he had no business making.  The mound was occupied by Riley SYKES, Lake TAYLOR (first appearance this season) and Josh EIDT.

On Monday, August 1, 2022, the team travelled to Kincardine for its final league game, a makeup game with the Senior Cubs.  It was a WINDY day.  The boys battled hard to maintain their winning streak and ended the season with a 6 to 6 tie.  Judd WALKER hit a dinger in the 6th inning and the pitching staff consisted of GETTLER, WALKER, and Eric TAYLOR.  Lake TAYLOR laid out for a catch at shortstop and still made the out with MONDEN at 1st.  HARMER once again killed it in centerfield and of course we can’t forget our catcher, Wyatt HUITEMA, who crushed it as always, even with the added pressure of the huge backstop in Kincardine.

What a fantastic season this has been!  These guys have played their hearts out and it’s showed with an impressive 11 GAMES WON IN A ROW!  I could not be prouder of their dedication, determination, and overall love of the game and respect for each other.

They will end the year with two tournaments.  OBA’s hosted by Wyoming from August 5 to 6 and their year end MOSBL (Midwestern Ontario Senior Baseball League) league tournament the following weekend.
