Exciting Finishes as Peewee Baseball Returns To Diamond
Two close games were the end result as Mitchell Astros Peewee baseball returned to the diamond on July 29th. Playing a double-header, Team Green (Russwurm) was defeated 10-9 by Team Blue (Visneskie), followed by a 3-3 tie with Team Red (Geiger).
In the opening game for Mitchell Peewee baseball's 2020 abbreviated season, Team Blue's Jordan Visneskie stunned Team Green in the bottom of the final inning with a walk-off 3-run home run to deep right centre, erasing a Team Green 9-6 lead into a 10-9 Team Blue Victory. Swinging a hot bat all game, Visneskie also homered and tripled earlier, driving in a total of 6 of his team's 10 runs. Jack Miller and Nick Wagner also had base hits for Team Blue, and Ryan Klumper, Max Hannon, and Visneskie each scored twice. Dominic Marshall was 2-for-2 with a solo home run for Team Green, and Keegan Priestap and Charlie Wolfe each scored two runs.
The twilight game was more of a pitchers' duel low-scoring affair, with Team Red holding a 3-1 lead going into the last inning sparked by Carson Harmer's RBI triple to left centre in the first inning and two runs scored by leadoff batter Griffin Bree. Kellen Russwurm would open the last at-bat with a walk for Team Green, and was driven in by Marshall. Wade Campbell stroked a game-tying RBI single to end the game in a 3-3 tie. Great to see the fans out in support of our efforts!
