The
Zehr Insurance OBA bantam boys were in high spirits as they warmed up on the
London Badgers Minor baseball field prior to their game on Monday night. They followed their pregame rituals and
readied themselves for a tough game against the 2nd place team in
their league. Our Mitchell boys scored
early in the game and held the lead until the bottom of the third. They then kept the game tied until the bottom
of the 5th when a couple errors and big hits aided the Badgers in
scoring and eventually winning the game 6 to 1.
The excitement started in the 1st inning when Reid RAMSEYER got the first hit of the game, stole 2nd and then was batted in by James COPELAND to score Mitchell’s sole run of the game. Both teams had pitchers who liked to attempt the perfect pick-off and, as a result, Jake MONDEN found himself on the wrong side of a pickle. Fortunately, he skillfully dodged the London defense and slid his way back to his base.
It was a back and forth game with quick innings and was completed a half hour before the time limit (leaving lots of time for ice cream after the game). MONDEN had an excellent game on the mound where he delivered only 61 pitches by the end of the 5th inning. He had a first pitch strike in the first four innings as well. Eric GETTLER was the closer and only needed two pitches to complete the 5th followed by 9 more pitches and a strikeout to finish the game.
Alec MURRAY also had an outstanding game where he would stretch beyond what seemed humanly possible while on 1st base to complete 12 outs. He also turned a double play to Curt EIDT who was covering 2nd late in the 6th inning.
The game ended with the boys in the same high spirits that they brought to the diamond. They had a great game and were commended by the London coaches for their excellent fundamental play.
It was a great night for a ballgame!
