Rookie OBAs fight hard against tough competition
The wolfe flooring major rookie team played hard against top level competition over the past weekend in the London tecumsehs tournament

Going into the weekend the locals knew they were in tough playing a few large centers. In the first game Mitchell squared off against the halton hills eagles. The eagles are one of the top AAA teams in the province, holding a record of 14-4 in the strongest league in Ontario. Mitchell held strong for most of the game but a few costly errors and relentless hitting by the eagles buried the Astros in a hole they couldn't come out of. The game ended in a mercy, but rookies Thomas schoonderwoerd and tyler verberne each had some dazzling plays in the field. In the second game the Astros played a strong Leamington lakers squad. Leamington already had 2 tournament titles under there belt on the year. The locals fought strong all game, led by connor wolfe, ray wolfe and Bryson eickmeyer on offense, all of witch had 2 doubles in the game. The locals led all game, until a big 7 run inning in the 6th for the lakers, abled them to take a lead and hold on for a 15-11 win. The lakers went on to be finalists in the tournament that included both the champions and runner ups from the AAA OBAs the year before. The Astros finished off with a familiar foe in the waterdown wolves. The bats came alive in this game, with triples from eickmeyer, r.wolfe and owen jarmuth. Wes berendesen reached base every at bat and received player of the game credits. The game finished in a 20-8 rout for the Astros. After the tournament the locals travelled to listowel to play an always tough listowel squad. The locals crushed the ball all over the field, Michael 'tanker' coyne had 3 doubles and cam dietz and logan Montgomery hit the ball hard every at bat. The game finished in a 31-23 slugfest win for the locals. The season has been a success so far and the locals are sure to be in contention for the WOBA league championships in Mitchell august 2-4 and OBA provincial championships labour day weekend in beamsville.
