Major Rookie Wood place 1st in their Championship Division
Submitted By Amanda Wood on Monday, August 5, 2019
Your Neighborhood Credit Union Major Rookie Tier 1 team went undefeated this weekend in their year-end tournament to end their season coming in first place in their major rookie tier 1 Championship division.

Starting off Friday night the rookies would come against the Hanover Hurricanes.  Being the away team, lead off batter Cole Templeman would start with a nice hit over the short stops head in the first inning followed by Wesley Berensen and Greg McKay's solid hits to assist in bringing in 5 runs in the inning to start the game off with a strong lead.  In the field the rookies would work hard but the Hurricane would come back just the same scoring five runs also. The two teams would battle back and forth with a close score throughout until the 5th and last inning where the Mitchell rookies would load up on bat with big hits coming in from Caleb Pennings, Keith Linton, and Alise Crawford bringing in the winning run for the game with a score of 19-16.

Saturday morning the rookies would then face team Ripley. Keeping up with Friday nights pace with a bit of extra runs, the Mitchell Astros would start strong at bat by going completely through the order and bringing 7 runs in the 1st. Notable hits would come from Miranda Scherbarth, Greg McKay and Wesley Berenson.
Returning to the field Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Rookie's would shut down the Ripley squad with no hesitation showing major league plays coming from shortstop Wesley Berenson to first base Caleb Pennings and nothing squeezing by pitcher Alise Crawford.
With Leaps and Bounds the Mitchell Astro team would show no mercy in completing a full game seven Innings with a victory of 26 to 6 advancing them directly to the semi-finals.

With two wins under their belt the kids in blue would move to Sunday morning at 930 to face  Ripley again. Ripley had won the coin toss and by choosing the away team would try to get a jump on runs at bat. Again with sharp defensive  plays and quick instincts, the Mitchell Astros would quick put a close to Ripley's attempt holding them at just 2 runs scored. The Ripley wolves, took the field afterwards to try to come up with the same however we're not able to stop the Mitchell Astros from scoring five runs Templeman, lead off batter would show his skills with a double , pass the center fielder  and great singles from Phoebe Wood and Tao Billings. Mitchell would continue to dominate through the innings with hits from all including a homerun from speed Runner Wesley Berensen and tip top defense from the field.  With another Win the strong Mitchell major rookies would close up the diamond at a final 14 to 6 score.

Advancing to the finals the rookies then would play a strong determined Flesherton team.

With the kids playing in the heat of the Sun  at 12:45 it was tough to say how the kids would keep going.  Astros came out swinging and gave it their all. Fantastics plays at 1st and 2nd by McKay and Pennings and flyball catch from Crawford. Hard bats with home run hits from Wesley Berensen , Greg Mckay and Deni Beaudin would show flesherton what the Astros had! With an end result and win of 30-21 to win the tier 1 consulation championship.

Great season ending for the team.
