Perth County Chrysler Mid Season Report
The Perth County Chrysler Mosquito team is nearing the mid point of their WOBA season.  After a strong 3-0 start, the team has been involved in some really good ball games and now sit with a record of 5-2-1 after eight games.  Recent games have been played against Southwest London Scorpions Select, Grand Bend Rep, St Mary's Grey and the Stratford National Selects.

In a home game with the Southwest London Scorpions Select, the teams battled back and forth until the Scorpions were able to put up the limit of 6 in their last inning and the hometown Astros had no answer in their half.  On a brisk spring evening the two teams displayed some great baseball and the strong pitching of the Scorpions foiled any rallies that the Astros tried to get going.  When the last out was recorded the Scorpions left town with a 13-8 victory.

The next week the Grand Bend Rep came to town.  The hometown Astros had their bats going from the first inning and jumped out to an early lead that the visiting Grand Bend team could not overcome.  The Astros displayed a great deal of sportsmanship and earned the respect of the visiting teams parents.  Final score was 22-11 for the Astros.

Next up was a western road trip game to play the Southwest London Scorpion Select team.  The caravan of parents minivans started shortly after school, as they knew they would have to deal with rush hour London traffic!  Everyone arrived before game time and the Astros showed they came to play.  On a very humid evening the pitchers threw extremely well and kept the game tight.  The teams defence was on display, highlighted by a throw from left field that was a strike to home plate, that allowed the catcher to tag a runner out that got a little greedy.  The Astros went into the final inning up by three, but a tough Scorpion team scratched three runs across and had the winning run on third.  The Astros closer was able to get the final out via the strikeout and leave the winning run standing on third.  The game ended in a 10-10 tie.

The next night the Astros hosted St Marys Grey.  The effects of the heat from the previous night and the long car ride home were evident early and often throughout the game.  The pitching staff again threw well, only to have some balls booted around in the infield making it difficult to get outs.  The bats did their job plating 15 runs, but St Marys was able to get 20 and hand the Astros the loss.  Defence was the focus at the next few practices.

This past week had the Stratford National Selects come to Mitchell.  In a very entertaining game, the defence that was practiced the previous week showed.  Mitchell made several nice outs, helping out the pitchers who again threw a lot of strikes.  The Astros experienced one tough inning but were able to battle back and come from behind to score a bunch of runs late.  Mitchell was able to hold on and win a close one 14-10.

Excellent work so far this season boys, keep up the hard work as the calendar flips to July soon, and enjoy your last week of school!!!! I know you will all miss it!
