FIRST TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR
The Mitchell Pee Wee OBA team travelled to Harrow June 13 to 15 for their first tournament of the year.  Friday night, Mitchell played a strong and aggressive Port Dover team and lost 13 - 1.

Nothing went the team's way in a windy and injury filled game.  Ryan HARMER led off the game with a bullet single, stole second and scored on a Port Dover error that was hit by Jackson MacARTHUR.  Port Dover responded with two runs of their own in the first, two runs in the third and four in the fourth.  Jake MONDEN battled hard on the mound and left part way through the fourth after being hit by a ball that was hit up the middle.  Ben SMALL finished pitching the fourth and gave up one run in the fifth inning.  Kyle RICHARDSON finished the fifth inning and pitched the sixth inning but was on the wrong end of numerous Mitchell errors.  RICHARDSON hit a double and a single and Callum McMANN hit a single as that was all Mitchell could get against some strong Port Dover pitching.

Saturday morning Mitchell responded with a better outing against Amherstburg.  McMANN started on the mound and pitched a solid two plus innings giving up one run and Reid RAMSEYER followed up with three great innings.  Mitchell batters battled hard and scored one run in the second and third innings and added two more in the fifth against a hug Amherstburg pitcher.  Amherstburg rallied for three runs in their final at bat to tie things up.  In the bottom of the inning, and with the score tied at four, RICHARDSON led off the inning with a huge double.  With one out, McMANN hit a solid single to give Mitchell the walk-off victory.  HARMER, SMALL, Curtis EIDT and MONDEN scored runs in the exciting victory.

Later on Saturday, Mitchell faced off against Tecumseh in an elimination game.  Tecumseh's first batter scored but with EIDT on the mound he held the opposition to the single run over four plus innings.  Leadoff batter HARMER scored two runs in his first two at bats, and MacARTHUR and EIDT gave Mitchell a 4-1 lead.  But with a couple miscues and a pitching change, Tecumseh balled back for seven runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-4 lead.  Mitchell tried to rally and loaded the bases with none out in the sixth, but after a strikeout and a quick double play the rally ended and took the wind out of Mitchell's sails.  James COPELAND pitched a perfect sixth inning but did not get any help offensively and Mitchell went on to lose 8-4.

Next game is in Exeter on Monday, July 7th at 6:30pm.
