3 PICKLES IN ONE GAME! by Heather Monden
The Campbell Insurance WOBA Bantam Boys played an excellent hard-fought game under the lights on Friday, June 5th against the strong North Middlesex (Parkhill) team.

The game was jam-packed full of excitement right out of the gate as catcher, Ryan HARMER, made an incredible catch up against the backstop, setting the tone for what started out to be a very evenly matched game.

Jake MONDEN took the mound and played a solid game for the first two and a half innings, but a hard hit to the shin sent him to the bench earlier then expected.  Further action in the third included a huge throw by Judd WALKER into HARMER clinching the first out of the inning.  As if that wasn't exciting enough, shortly thereafter nearly the entire team became involved in a pickle between second and third bases resulting in their second out.  Before the ball could even make it's way back to the pitcher the team found themselves in another pickle, literally.  This time the Parkhill runner managed to dodge our persistant players and make his way safely onto the base.  This inning also brought in our first run of the game by Curtis EIDT at which point the score was a respectable 3 to 1.

James COPELAND took over pitching.  He threw two first pitch strikes and struck out two batters during his time on the mound.  Nothing got past Alec MURRAY as he played a stellar game at first base and Stephen BIRD worked hard in the outfield preventing runners from advancing home on their hard hits.

In the fifth, Tyson McINTOSH got the first out with his diving catch in right field.  The infielders would not be outdone, however, as they became involved in their third pickle of the game.  Trevor DIXON tagged that runner out at third.  Offensively, Ashton CNOCKAERT and Brenden BOVILLE both patiently made their way to first on a walk and both scored much needed runs for the team.

Parkhill must have got a second wind as they took to the bats in the last inning and one by one crushed the ball to the outfield.  Mitchell loaded the bases up twice, but they just couldn't keep the rallies going.  DIXON finished the game strong on the mound.  Our last at bat proved exciting for the team not because we scored any runs, but because DIXON stole second base!  A truly exciting game from start to finish...despite the 11 to 3 loss.
