BANTAMS BREAK THREE GAME WINLESS STREAK By: Heather Monden
The Campbell Insurance OBA boy’s bantam hardball team sprang back to life in north London on Thursday night as they brought home a 4 to 1 win over the North London Nationals.  These 10 Mitchell boys took charge of the diamond for the entire seven innings playing a nearly error free game and providing their fans with a ton of excitement.

A very keen Curt EIDT took to the mound for the entire seven innings throwing only 84 pitches.  It should be noted that he had a 4 pitch and a 7 pitch inning.  The entire team backed him all game long which aided in shutting this thing down before the 2 hour time limit.

Ryan HARMER, who resembled a gymnast in centre field, barrel rolled to complete a perfect catch in the second inning and then in the fourth he snagged a bounced ball and gunned it to Trevor DIXON at first getting what seemed to be an impossible out.

Stephen BIRD, while occupying right field, leapt up in the air snagging the final out in the second inning.

In the fifth inning Mitchell was two away when they got a London runner caught up in a pickle between first and second.  Amidst the flurry of activity a London runner on third attempted to steal home base, but he did not outsmart our second baseman, Jake MONDEN, who took the opportunity to chuck the ball to catcher, Reid RAMSEYER, and get that all important third out of the inning.

Not to be outdone in the sixth, Jackson MACARTHUR, got the first out, a fly ball, and the second was an overthrow to first that he scooped up and fired to Judd WALKER who tagged the runner at second for another out.  WALKER then made an easy catch snagging the third out and ending yet another inning that only saw three London batters.

Drew MACLEAN had a solid game at third base catching two fly balls and tossing another out at first.  James COPELAND didn’t see a whole lot of action in left field, but did get an out while playing first in the fourth inning.

Offensively, lead batter HARMER scored two runs.  His "Willie Mays Hayes" style enabled him to get into a scoring position both times before the other team knew what was happening.  BIRD, with a good lead off of third, took a huge leap of faith as he "sprinted" towards home plate, slid and celebrated as the umpire called him safe.  Immediately after, DIXON scored giving Mitchell a comfortable 4 to 1 lead which they maintained for the rest of the game.

It was a beautiful night for a ball game!
