Mitchell 2 Earns First Victory of Young Season
On Monday May 25, the Mitchell Tier 2 team 2, played the Mitchell 1 team in what proved to be a close battle. Mitchell 1 jumped out to an early lead going up by 5 after 2 innings. Mitchell 2's bats finally came alive in the bottom of the third as they would score 6 runs, highlighted by Brandon Dietrich's massive bases loaded double to center field that would plate two runs. Mitchell 2 would tack on 3 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th to hang on for a 10-7 win, as a relentless Mitchell 1 team would not quit.
Dietrich would lead the team offensively recording three hits, including 2 singles and his monster double. Joel Meinen and Ben Medhurst would also add three hits, including 2 singles and a double each. Payton Wood and Darius Ladd also added three singles to the hit parade.
Defensively, Jade Huygen and Breanna Kay made key plays to record outs. Next up, the Astros hit the road for their first road game of the season. They travel to Goderich on Thursday May 28. Good Luck!
