LOTS OF GAMES LAST WEEK By: Darryl Eidt
The Campbell Insurance bantam boys finished up a busy week. On Sunday afternoon Mitchell took on first place Owen Sound in a double header.
In game one, Trevor DIXON took the mound and pitched a great game leading the team to a 7 - 3 win. DIXON pitched into the sixth inning and Tyson McINTOSH finished up the last five outs to pick up the save. DIXON helped himself defensively when he picked off a runner at third to end the first.
In the second inning another pick off at third led to a pickle and catcher Reid RAMSEYER started an inning ending double play. Not to be outdone was McINTOSH in left field, in the fifth inning, when he caught a high fly ball and gunned down a runner at second for another inning ending double play. Ramseyer also gunned down a couple base runners while stealing.
Offensively, Alec MURRAY and RAMSEYER had two runs scored. It was an all round solid game to give Mitchell two wins in a row.
Game two didn't go so well. The boys led 6 - 5 after four innings but fell apart in the fifth giving up 8 runs. Walks and errors made things hard on the pitchers as Judd WALKER, James COPELAND, RAMSEYER, Zach WARD and Jake MONDEN all pitched in the long 13 - 7 loss. Brenden BOVILLE started a double play of his own on a hard grounder to right field. A quick throw to first got the hitter out and then a relay from DIXON to third caught a base runner off the bag. WALKER scored two runs to lead the offensive.
Just like the first game, Mitchell got 7 runs, but this time Owen Sound scored 13. A win for each team on this blistering hot day.
