Mosquitos Edge Walkerton in Final Tune-up for OBA Playoffs
The Mitchell Stickhandler Mosquito OBA Astros travelled to Walkerton on August 28th to complete the second half of a home-and-home exhibition series (unfortunately Mitchell's home game on August 22nd was rained out), returning home with a narrow 6-5 victory.
The locals went quiet in the first inning, and Walkerton jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom half on a two-run double. The Astros would tie it up in the second inning as Caleb Templeman opened with a walk, scoring on a triple by Kellen Russwurm. After a Ryan Hubbard walk, Russwurm would score on Jack Miller's RBI groundout.
Trailing 3-2 going into the third, the Astros would score three as Carson Harmer, Josh French, and Jack Small all crossed the plate. Walkerton would battle back to tie the game 5-5, but Harmer would plate the eventual winning run in the fifth on an RBI base hit by Small to earn the victory.
The defending-champion Mosquitos will attend the OBA Provincial 'D' Championship tournament beginning this Friday Sept 1st in Chatham, facing Corunna in the opening game of the round robin.
