The D.L. Hannon Minor Mosquitos had a fantastic WOBA year end tournament, going undefeated throughout round robin play and capturing the title in a one-sided game against Clinton Minor on August 12th. In the first game of the tournament Mitchell faced Clinton minor and would start out strong with Ryan Klumper posting a triple that would score Ethan Jarmuth and Logan Verberne.  Later in the inning Jarmuth would hit a grand slam home run that would score the 6th and final run of the inning.  Brayden Pennings would start on the mound for the Astros striking out 2 of the 5 batters faced that inning.  Mitchell would add 6 more runs in the top of the second inning and would hold Clinton to 2 runs as the boys looked sharp defensively in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Logan Verberne would start off the top of the 3rd inning with a triple posting an RBI on the play as Jarmuth would come in to score.  The Astros continued to dominate offensively through the inning with Evan Janssen stealing home to score the 6th and final run of the inning.  Janssen would relieve Pennings midway through the bottom of the 3rd inning as Mitchell would allow no runs.

Elijah Bender would step up to the plate with Olen Hopf waiting on third and deliver a two-run home run, these would be two of the 5 runs Mitchell would score this inning.  Mitchell would allow only two runs in the bottom of the 4th as Janssen struck out 2 and Bender at short stop made a great play to Zack Siemon-Hergot at 1st for the final out of the inning.

Mitchell would end the game with a final score of 23-4.

In their second game the Astros faced the Grand Bend Lakers.  Max Hannon would start out pitching striking out 2 of the 5 batters he faced and Mitchell allowing the Lakers only 1 run.

Bottom of the first Mitchell went to work scoring 6 runs to take the lead.  But the Lakers would answer back in the top of the 2nd as Mitchell struggled defensively giving up 6 runs as the Lakers took the lead 7-6.

Bottom of the 2nd Mitchell would start to turn things around as Ethan Jarmuth would start the inning off with a home run.  Later in the inning Braden Hoegy at the plate with loaded bases would hit a triple that would bring in Charlie Wolfe, Elijah Bender and Olen Hopf to score.  Evan Janssen would score the final run of the inning on an RBI single from Landon VanBakel.

Olen Hopf would relieve Hannon on the mound in the top of the 3rd as Mitchell held the Lakers to 1 run with some good defensive play.

Mitchell would build on their lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Zack Siemon-Hergot started off the Astros with a home run.  Later in the inning Ethan Jarmuth would hit a 3 run home run bringing in Ryan Klumper and Logan Verberne.  Mitchell would finish the inning with 6 runs.

Jarmuth would start on the mound in the top of the 4th and would strike out 3 of the 7 batters he faced.  Mitchell would allow only 2 runs, protecting their lead heading into the bottom of the inning, where they would add 6 more runs finishing the game with a final score of 24-10.

In their third round robin game Mitchell would face Exeter.  Logan Verberne set the offensive tone early with a two-run home run as he and Ethan Jarmuth would come in to score.  Mitchell would add 4 more runs to finish the inning with 6.

Elijah Bender would get the start on the mound for Mitchell and the first out of the inning would come from a great play by Jarmuth at the plate to Verberne to get the runner at 2nd on the steal.  Bender would get it to Ryan Klumper at 1st for the 2nd out of the inning and Braden Hoegy at 3rd would also get it to Klumper at 1st for the 3rd and final out of the inning.

Mitchell would add 6 more runs in the top of the second through a series of walks throughout the inning.  Bender got a hot hand in the bottom of the 2nd as he struck out 3 of the 4 batters he faced.

Building a comfortable lead heading into the top of the third inning Mitchell would add 6 runs as Charlie Wolfe, Elijah Bender, Evan Janssen, Olen Hopf, Brayden Pennings and Carson Brown would score.

Verberne would relieve Bender in the bottom of the 3rd and strike out 2 of 5 batters.  Mitchell would add 2 runs to their lead in the top of the forth and Verberne would close out the forth inning on the mound with 2 strike outs as Mitchell gave up 5 runs to Exeter but would finish the game with a final score of 20-6.

Mitchell showed no signs of letting up as they entered the final game.  In the top of the first Charlie Wolfe would start out on the mound striking out 2 of 4 batters he faced.  Good defensive plays by Landon Van Bakel to Max Hannon at 2nd base for the third and final out of the inning, allowing Clinton no runs.

In the bottom of the first the boys were keen to start swinging.  With bases loaded Ryan Klumper would connect on a single that would cash in to runs bringing in Ethan Jarmuth and Logan Verberne.  Max Hannon would follow it up with an RBI single to bring in Charlie Wolfe.  Zack Siemon-Hergot would add to the offence with double RBI to that saw Ryan Klumper and Max Hannon score.  Braden Hoegy would step to the plate and deliver a triple that would bring in Siemon-Hergot for the 6th and final run of the inning.

Charlie Wolfe remained hot on the mound as he struck out 3 of 5 batters in the top of the 2nd as the Astros continued to hold Clinton scoreless

Bottom of the 2nd Mitchell would add six runs to their lead as they would pull away from Clinton leading 12-0.

Mitchell would end the top of the 3rd inning quickly with 3 up and 3 down.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Elijah Bender would hit a two-run home run bringing in Hoegy on the play.  Olen Hopf and Ethan Jarmuth would each add runs respectively.  Logan Verberne would then hit a triple setting Wolfe up for the RBI single to bring him in.  Ryan Klumper and Max Hannon would both walk during their at bats loading the bases.  With the bases loaded Brayden Pennings would also walk and Wolfe would score on the play to end the inning.

Ryan Klumper would take over for Wolfe on the mound and went to work quickly, striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced, and Mitchell would again deny runs to Clinton in this inning.

With a comfortable lead heading into the bottom of the 4th Mitchell would not take another at bat, ending the game with a final score of 18-0.

Congratulations to the D.L. Minor Mosquitos on a great WOBA season.  Thanks to the coaching staff, kids and parents for making it a great summer.
