Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies WOBA Champs!!
The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies played host to the WOBA Playoff Tournament in Mitchell this past weekend, defeating St Mary's 17-5 in the final to win the championship.  The team received a first round bye for finishing first in the regular season schedule, and opened the tournament vs Exeter on Saturday at noon.  Holding their opponents off the scoreboard until the 4th inning, Mitchell would score every inning on route to a 17-4 victory.  Carson Harmer, Josh French, Lucas Roobroeck, and Dominic Marshall would each score 3 runs in the win.

Mitchell would face an aggressive-running Lucan-Ilderton team in game two on Saturday, breaking an 11-11 tie wide open in the 5th inning for an eventual 21-11 victory.  Strong defense by Mitchell kept the opponents off the scoreboard completely during the last two innings.  Jack Small homered and scored 3 runs, and Ryan Hubbard banged out two triples.  A well-balanced offense had every player scoring at least one run.
The two teams would again square off in the semi-final on Sunday morning.  Down 7-5 going into the bottom of the 4th, the locals' bats exploded for 14 runs in two innings, leading to a 19-7 victory.  Harmer, Small, Jarrett Van Bakel, and Kellen Russwurm all had extra-base hits, with Van Bakel leading the way going 4 for 4 and scoring 4 runs.
In the championship game vs St Mary's, an extremely pumped up Mitchell squad jumped out to an early 12-0 lead highlighted by cleanup hitter Roobroeck's towering 2-run triple to left and another homer by Small in the first inning.  Outstanding defensive plays included a deep fly ball out in left field by Hubbard and a foul pop out by catcher Brock Boville.  The team will take some time off this week before resuming an exhibition game schedule to prepare for the OBA 'D' Championship in Kingsville on Labour Day Weekend.
