Major Rookie Tier 1, 9U Major Rookie, 2016 (Mitchell Minor Baseball)

The Mitchell Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookie Astros closed out their exhibition schedule on Aug 31st with a visit to Stratford, returning home with a 23-12 victory. The visitors scored early and often, plating the maximum seven runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by RBI triples by Jordan Visneskie and Hayden Nicholson.

The Mitchell Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookie Astros hosted the Stratford Indians in exhibition play on Aug 25th, downing the visitors by a score of 14-4.  The locals held their opponents off the scoresheet for the first two innings, but struck first in the opening inning as Carson Harmer and Kellen Russwurm both hit triples, the latter knocking in Jack Miller with the second run.  Dominic Marshall drove in Harmer with an RBI single to open the scoring, and Ben Medhurst plated Russwurm with a sac fly to build a 3-0 lead.

The Mitchell Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookie Astros hosted the DMBA Select Black Sox in an exhibition match on August 23rd, notching a 28-9 victory. Carson Harmer continued to set the tone at the top of the order, falling a double short of the cycle in a 6-for-6 effort with five runs scored and 3 RBI's.  Ryan Hubbard and Kellen Russwurm also had strong nights at the plate, with Hubbard smashing two triples and finishing 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBI's.  Russwurm reached base in all five at-bats, hammering a triple and double, and adding 4 RBI's.

The Mitchell Tier 1 Major Rookie Astros swept both games of a home and home exhibition series with WOBA league champs Listowel Legionnaires this week, shutting out the visitors 12-0 on August 9th and returning home on August 10th with a 23-6 victory.

The Mitchell Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookie Astros competed in the 8-team WOBA Playoff Tournament hosted in Mitchell Aug 5-7th.  Entering the tournament as the heavy favourites after an undefeated season, the locals finished a disappointing third after being ousted by eventual champion Listowel Legionnaires 13-11 in the semi-finals on Sunday.
