Major Rookie Tier 1, 9U Major Rookie, 2015 (Mitchell Minor Baseball)

The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies season came to an end after consecutive losses at the OBA tournament on Saturday, narrowly losing 6-5 to Listowel and dropping a 10-8 decision to Essex. The locals fell behind early vs Listowel, and a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 7th was too little to late to turn the tide.

The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies opened the OBA Tournament in Kingsville yesterday with a win, downing Blenheim 12-6.  Jarrett Van Bakel smacked 2 doubles and scored 3 runs, and Dominic Marshall drove in 4 runs with a pair of doubles.  The defensive highlight of the game was Carson Harmer recovering a deep hit fly ball in the outfield, relaying to Ryan Hubbard, who threw out the runner to catcher Jack Miller at home plate.  Thanks to sponsor Gus Eyers from The Stickhandler for the WOBA Champs t-shirts, proudly worn after the game last night!

The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies travelled up Hwy 23 north to Listowel on Sept 2 for a final exhibition game before the OBA tournament this weekend, returning home with a 21-9 victory.  Mitchell's bats were a solid team effort all through the lineup, as every player reached base at least once.  Cleanup hitter Lucas Roobroeck led the way at the plate going 5 for 5, and 3 runs each were scored by Josh French, Jarrett Van Bakel, and Roobroeck.  Extra base hits were recorded by Roobroeck, Van Bakel, Jack Small, Jack Miller, and Jordan Visneskie.

The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies continued their OBA preparation exhibition schedule vs higher-ranked teams on August 26th, coming up short in a 12-7 loss at home to the London West Tin Caps.  The locals fell behind 8-0 early and outscored the opposition for the remainder of the game but couldn't catch up.  Carson Harmer scored two runs, and Jordan Visneskie was 3-for-3 at the plate and made a fly ball out in left field.  Extra-base hits were recorded by Dominic Marshall, Josh French, and Jack Small.  Caleb Templeman made some terrific foul ball outs at first base, and Ryan Hubbard ...

The Stickhandler Tier 1 Major Rookies squared off against Dorchester recently in a home-and-home exhibition series to prepare both teams for the OBA Tournament on Labour Day Weekend.  Travelling to Dorchester on August 18th, the locals ran into a very strong opponent and were sent home reeling from a 25-4 defeat.  Hosting Dorchester on August 24th proved a bit better result, with a closer score of 22-12.  Jarrett Van Bakel and Jack Small each scored 3 runs in the losing cause, combining for five extra-base hits.  Doubles were also recorded by Jack Miller and Ryan Hubbard.
